Learning and Education Team

NHS Forth Valley Learning & Education Team Story

Through a turbulent period of change, the Learning and Education Team have come together to support colleagues across NHS Forth Valley and have worked hard to refresh and restart many of the services that had been on hold since 2020.

Coordinated by the Learning and Education Team, placements for school pupils have restarted, offering days of work experience to school pupils interested in pursuing careers within the NHS.  Pupils have already attended placements with a diverse range of teams, such as Hospital@Home, Theatres, Labs, Pathology, and the Emergency Department.  The team are working with colleagues in Medical Education and the Widening Participation project to refresh NHS Forth Valley’s work experience offering, and we hope to launch this in 2023.

The NHS Forth Valley Staff Bursary scheme ran again in 2022, supporting twenty-three successful applicants.  Each successful applicant received up to 50% of the cost of this year’s courses, which has supported them to be able to develop their skills and further their careers within the NHS.

The team are supporting colleagues across NHS Forth Valley with travel, which had been put on hold due to the pandemic.  We work with an external travel provider to support colleagues with rail and air travel, plus accommodation requests, so that they can attend events across the UK.

Across NHS Forth Valley there is a push to support managers in delivering PDP’s for their team members, and the Learning and Education team are on hand to support colleagues with any queries.  We also support the Medical Appraisal process, working with colleagues across the Board to match appraisers with appraisees and support the wider Medical Appraisal administration process.

The team have continued to work to support Organisational Development with our training offering post-pandemic.  As we have moved from face-to-face to online delivery, the team have adapted and worked to support staff with digital facilitation, answering queries from both facilitators and virtual attendees.  With socially distanced sessions introduced, the team have been on hand to adapt our Learning Centre to be able to provide virtual meetings and training sessions through platforms such as MS Teams.  This allowed us to continue to support staff across NHS Forth Valley to develop their knowledge and skills to be able to provide the best possible care to the people we support.
